Knockengorroch
We are broken hearted to announce that Simon Holmes, resident of Knockengorroch and founder of Knockengorroch festival passed from this world on December 14th 2025. He passed in peace and with his family around him.His enduring vision was to re-populate the hills and valleys of Knockengorroch, which happened for 4 days every year at the festival. The festival was never just a fantastic party, it was always part of a much wider utopian vision of Simon’s. We believe that to an extent, with your help, he succeeded in achieving it. Over the 27 years the festival has been running, countless people of all backgrounds and persuasions, musicians, artists, revellers, have visited Knockengorroch Meadow home of Ken Dee. A community has grown around Knockengorroch, couples have met, wedded, children conceived, grown up and even born at the site, ashes of those passed have been scattered here. Knockengorroch has seen the full round of human life and provided an opportunity for many to connect with this rich yet forgotten corner of Scotland.We hope to be able to continue Simon’s legacy, not least by dedicating Knockengorroch Festival 2026 to him and his vision.How this will look is germinating. Please get in touch if you have memories or footage you’d like to share, or would like to speak about or perform for Simon at Knockengorroch 2026.In Simon’s words:‘YA SALAAM peace upon you Knockengorrochers. If like me you cherish liberty and freedom, cultural heritage, artistic expression, or just simply the communal right to re-connect with nature, join with me.
